John Lewis Support

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012
Do you shop at John Lewis (Liverpool One)? If you do you can help raise funds to support the work that Greenbank Sports Academy does with disabled children – and it won’t cost you a penny!
For the next three months, anyone shopping in store will be asked to choose a charity (from a choice of 3) that they would like to support. Customers select using a token.
The more tokens that we receive from customers, the greater the value of support we receive from John Lewis (as a share of £3,000 received as products, volunteering time or financial support).
Please vote Greenbank Sports Academy when you shop in John Lewis (and ask your friends and family to do so too).
Thanks for your help

“We are absolutely delighted to receive this much needed investment in storage facilities. We specialise in offering opportunities for disabled people to take part in sport. The equipment such as sports wheelchairs takes up a lot of space, so the development will make such a difference”.

Activity Sessions for Dyspraxic Children

Tuesday, March 27th, 2012

A grant of £2,000 from Liverpool Primary Care Trust means that Greenbank can offer activity sessions for Dyspraxic children (Dyspraxia is a disability that affects movement and co-ordination).

The 10 week programme started on 2 March and takes place on Fridays from 5 – 6pm. Session leaders set the children a series of challenges that build and develop balance, co-ordination and agility.

The programme is led by Pete Wyman, Sport Development Officer at the Academy and supported by Greenbank Foundation Degree students in partnership with Liverpool Physiotherapy Service. All the staff involved completed the FUNS for everyone course at the Academy, to develop their understanding of physical challenges that can develop movement and co-ordination skills.

People’s Postcode Trust supports disability sport

Thursday, March 8th, 2012

Greenbank was awarded £4562 by People’s Postcode Trust, a grant-giving charity, funded entirely by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

We have used the money to purchase disability sports equipment to be used on an on-going basis at sessions that take place at Greenbank Sports Academy, particularly for use in blind and visually impaired (VI) football sessions.

Blind Footballer Roy Turnham said ‘it is fantastic to have the support of People’s Postcode Lottery so that we can buy specialist items of equipment like a football that contains a bell, so that blind players can detect the direction of the ball. Greenbank Sports Academy offers lots of opportunities for disabled adults and children to take part in sport ’

People’s Postcode Lottery is Britain’s charity lottery. Players play with their postcodes to win cash prizes while raising money for good causes.  As a charity lottery, £2 from every monthly lottery ticket charities and community initiatives across England, Scotland and Wales, including People’s Postcode Trust.  People’s Postcode Lottery believes in supporting local communities so the money raised by players in each country, stays in that country.

End of Trek Celebration

Wednesday, March 7th, 2012

Saturday 31 March 7pm

Everyone is welcome at this fun event to celebrate the end of Trek4Greenbank – a year long fundraiser organised by Dave Stanistreet, Paul Hayden and Simon McConville which ‘peaked’ with the ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro in January.

The evening will be filled with plenty of fun, games and activities, including longest time on the rodeo bull, fastest time on assault course, food, disco, live music, free prize draw and much more.

With ‘match’ from Barclays, the team raised £8056.76 which has been used to improve sports facilities including new football goals and nets for both courts and repair broken gym equipment.

To buy tickets, contact Dave Stanistreet on 0151 280 7757 or email dave.stanistreet@greenbank-project.org.uk
