A huge thank you to staff at Deloitte’s Liverpool office for supporting the Christmas Party organised for the children who have taken part in disability sports activities as part of the Choices Programme, during the year,

Thanks to Deloitte we were able to offer the children a fabulous party including games, party food and a gift from Santa.

Deloitte’s Community Investment representative for the Liverpool office said “It was great to see the children having such a good time and we were delighted to be involved”.

Vehicle donated by ERS Medical

Thursday, December 18th, 2014

We are delighted to accept the generous donation of a minibus from private ambulance company ERS Medical.

The vehicle was officially presented to Greenbank on 17 December by Sam Parry, General Manager (North) for ERS Medical.

Gerry Kinsella, Greenbank’s Chief Executive, said, “The minibus will provide much needed support and enables disabled people to access sport and training opportunities. It is also used to transport specialist equipment such as sports wheelchairs to venues across Merseyside, where we deliver community sessions. We are extremely grateful to ERS Medical for their generosity.”

Sam Parry, ERS Medical’s General Manager, said, “We’re delighted to support the great work done by Greenbank. The wheelchair-friendly vehicle, previously used by ERS Medical to transport non-emergency patients, has been adapted to cater to Greenbank’s requirements by adding in more seating and brand new vehicle graphics.”

Sam added, “Additionally, as Greenbank transport their “power hockey” chairs across the community enabling more disabled children to access the sport, the vehicle is perfectly suited to accommodate that too.”

Boccia Mini League

Monday, December 15th, 2014

An important part of sports participation is the opportunity to play competitively and with this in mind we organise regular mini-leagues focusing on different sports, with each league lasting for 4 weeks.
The next mini-league, starting on Wednesday 7 January from 6 to 8pm will offer disabled people aged from 8 to adult to play Boccia competitively. Playing in the mini-league is free
Choices Development Officer Steve Sullivan said “Boccia can be played as an individual or team sport and has been designed for people with a severe level of physical / learning disability. Based on bowls or boules the game is played on a badminton sized court. Players have a set of 6 balls (either red or blue) which are thrown, kicked or ramped to a white target ball (the jack) and points are scored by those closest to the jack. Playing Boccia improves co-ordination, self-control and accuracy and offers a great way to meet new people and develop communication skills. As well as the mini-league the Sports Academy is also the venue for a boccia club most Wednesdays from 6 to 7pm”
