Greenbank Sports Academy organised a fabulous day of cricket for 180 disabled children at Alder Cricket Club on 11th May – even the sun shone!!

Seven schools from across Merseyside; Sandfield Park, Merefield, Lansbury Bridge, Woodchurch High, Clare Mount, Alt Bridge and Knowsley Central, were represented in five separate events.

Organiser Steve Sullivan, who was delighted with the day’s play, commented:

“Congratulations to all teams who took part in the event – we had some very close games that highlighted the skill levels of the teams.”

He added:

“Thank you to all the players, teachers, Lancashire Cricket Board umpires and to the individual volunteers and umpires/staff at Alder Cricket Club who made this event so successful.”

Visual Impairment Sport and Physical Activity Day

We were delighted to welcome 30 blind and partially sighted young people to a Sport and Physical Activity Day on 8th May.

Activities on offer included Boccia, short tennis, football, cricket, cycling, wheelchair sports and athletics.

Event organiser Steve Sullivan said:

“Organising this event was a real team effort – a huge thank you to Panathlon and Liverpool FC Foundation for providing the funding which made the event possible.

Thanks also to St Vincent’s School, Action for Blind People,  Bradbury Fields, Active Me, SAVI NorthWest, and Greenbank Cycling Club for working with us to offer such a fabulous programme of activities for young people.”

He added:

“This was a great start and something for us to build on, as we develop sports and activities for people with a visual impairment.”

Final fixture PD/SLD Football League

We were delighted to welcome nine teams, representing five Merseyside schools, who concluded the PD/SLD season with the final fixture played on 28th April.

At the end of an extremely busy day Sandfield Park A, who remained unbeaten, topped Division 1; Merefield, finished 4 points clear of second placed Lansbury Park in the Severe Learning Disabilities (SLD) league and Woodchurch High were a massive 17 points ahead of closest rival Sandfield Park E, in the Physical Disabilities (PD) table.

Tournament organiser Steve Sullivan said:
