Greenbank’s Sports Development Coordinator / Foundation Degree Tutor, Peter Wyman became a bronze medal winning coach when Knowsley Challenge Wheelchair Racing Club athlete Isaac Towers won bronze for Great Britain at the World Para Athletics Championships in London on 20th July.

The 18-year-old wheelchair racer, powered through from the back of the field, accelerating superbly on the home straight to bronze medal position in the T34 800m in at the London Stadium.

Pete, who coaches Isaac at weekly training sessions at Sefton Park near Greenbank Sports Academy, as well as on the track at Kirkby stadium said:

“Isaac, who reached the final of this two-lap event in last year’s Rio Paralympics, proved he is learning from his big-race experience. He kept a cool head, when in last place after 400m, pacing himself patiently before a power-packed surge for the line which took him past GB team-mate Ben Rowlings. He should be congratulated for a brilliant performance.”

Also, competing at the Championships, in the T54 200m and 400m was Knowsley Challenge Wheelchair Racing Club team mate, Nathan Maguire, who achieved a personal best time in the 200m.

Nathan combines his athletics career with studying  Fda Inclusive Sport Development degree at Greenbank College which is offered in partnership with LJMU.
