Alt Bridge A are crowned league champions

Alt Bridge School girls football team winners of Girls Disability Football League 2017

Alt Bridge School’s A team were the delighted winners of this season’s Merseyside Ability Counts Girls Under 16 League, following the final fixture on 6th March hosted by Greenbank Sports Academy. The team, who remained unbeaten for the season, finished 11 points clear of nearest rival Childwall Abbey School, with 58 points.

Kerri O’Reilly, Head of PE at Alt Bridge was really enthusiastic about the benefits of girls playing in a football league stating:

“Taking part in this league has been about much more than playing football. It’s provided a massive self-esteem and confidence boost for the girls and has become an important part of school life.

They look forward to every fixture and have made friends with girls from other schools which is a really important part of social development.

To win, is a real bonus and we can’t wait to tell everyone back a school!”

Mark Horlick LCFA Disability Football Development Officer added:

“Congratulations to Alt Bridge and well done to all the other teams who have been excellent as well”.

The league involved 6 teams from 4 Merseyside Schools; Alt Bridge (A&B), Woodchurch, Childwall Abbey and Crosby High Schools.
