Merseyside Schools Wheelchair Handball Tournament
Liverpool Wheelchair Handball Club organised their first tournament this academic year, for local schools, at Greenbank Sports Academy, on 26 November.
Two teams from Sandfield Park (Liverpool) together with teams from Woodchurch High and Clare Mount (Wirral) and Cavendish High Schools (Halton) took part in the event, which was organised to increase awareness, interest and participation in the sport.
Mary Dunleavy, coach at Liverpool Wheelchair Handball Club said “We are currently delivering a Sport England funded project, to increase young people’s awareness of wheelchair handball by giving them the opportunity to play. This tournament has been great fun, with a lovely atmosphere and it’s really satisfying to see all these young people enjoying the game.”
Sandfield Park A were worthy tournament winners – remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament and beating Cavendish High School 7 to 3 in an exciting final.
The Wheelchair Handball Club meets at Greenbank Sports Academy every Wednesday 6 – 7pm and is open to disabled and non-disabled players aged 14 and above – new players welcome.
