Disability Sport and Activity Awards 2018

Our annual Disability Sport and Activity Awards were held at Greenbank Sports Academy on 19thJuly.

Greenbank Sport Development Manager Mark Palmer commented:

“It’s so important to recognise the contribution that all our stakeholders; participants, volunteers, coaches, schools and clubs make to the success of sport development activities offered via Greenbank Sports Academy”

“These awards are all about celebrating the amazing achievements of all throughout the year and saying thankyou to the many partners that make it possible. It’s unfortunate that there has to be a winner as all nominees demonstrated tremendous achievements”

He added:

“The awards would not have been possible with without the support of Deloitte’s Liverpool Branch, Marshall Property and Panathlon.”

The award winners were:

Club of The Year – Greenbank Giants Boccia Club

Senior Sportsperson of the Year – Caroline Robinson

Young Sportsperson of the Year – Sally Garster

Spirit of Sport Award – Alice Kelly

Greenbank College Student of the Year – Matthew Finnegan/Paul Henry

Volunteer of The Year – Pablo Rees

Coach of the Year – Peter Wyman

Panathlon Primary School of the Year – Merefield School

Panathlon Secondary School of the Year – Merefield School

The 2017/18 Panathlon Outstanding Achievement Award for Merseyside was presented at the end of Greenbank’s awards. The perseverance and determination of Merefield School’s Aaron Bishop earned him the trophy. The 15-year-old – who is a Merefield School Sports Leader – has competed in Panathlon events since 2011 and has most recently used his skills and knowledge of Panathlon to help support younger pupils and help them progress in various sports.

Aaron sustained very serious injuries when he was involved in a car accident in 2008, resulting in a severe brain injury, which led to physical, cognitive and behavioural difficulties. Aaron was delighted to win this award for himself and Merefield School, which was named Primary and Secondary School of the Year.
