Panathlon Schools Basketball and Boccia Tournament

Basketball winners Thomasson Memorial at Sharples High School (A)
More than fifty deaf children and young people took part in the Panathlon Schools Basketball and Boccia Tournament held at Greenbank Sports Academy on 29th February.
The purpose of the event was to provide an opportunity for deaf children to participate in sports that they had not previously experienced.
Michelle Dykins, Communicator at Thomasson Memorial at Sharples High School spoke enthusiastically about the event saying:
“There are very few sports events organised, specifically for deaf children and it’s great to give our pupils this opportunity to take part and know that communication is not going to be an issue.
A key benefit is the development of social skills – simply by having the chance to mix with other deaf children from other schools in the region – this doesn’t happen often enough.”
The basketball competition was won by Thomasson Memorial at Sharples High School (A), who beat their B team counterparts 8 points to 4.
In the primary Boccia final Middlewich Primary School (B) beat Westfield Primary School, 8 points to 2.
