Schools Power Hockey Tournament 2017

Four local schools; Broadgreen International; Woodchurch High, Sandfield Park and St Francis Xavier (SFX) took part in a competitive Power Hockey Tournament at Greenbank Sports Academy on 13th March.

Power hockey which has been developed at Greenbank Sports Academy for electric wheelchair users, enables electric users to compete alongside non-disabled players.

After an exciting day of play, a tense final followed involving arch rivals Broadgreen International and SFX.  Broadgreen managed to retain their unbeaten record, defeating SFX 4 v 2.

Power Hockey Player Liam Ashton, who is a pupil at Broadgreen International School said:

“I love playing power hockey. As an electric wheelchair user, I have very limited opportunities to play competitive sport. Power hockey is really fast and full contact, so it’s great fun, plus I can play it with my non-disabled friends. I’ve come to the tournament today with friends from school and it’s a brilliant feeling to be part of the team.

I come to Greenbank on Wednesdays from 5 to 6pm, every week to play. “

Sport Development Officer Pete Wyman added:

“To develop the sport and offer the opportunity for more disabled people to play power hockey we need funding to buy more chairs, which cost £4000 each. Call me on 07733 930221 if you can help.”
