Power hockey is a sport that’s played in electric wheelchairs with people (who often have cerebral palsy or Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy – two life-limiting conditions) chasing after a hockey-size ball and physical contact is permitted.
People of any age play the game with their non-disabled friends, coaches and siblings and often, because disabled people use an electric wheelchair daily, they are much better players, which is a great way to boost self-esteem and confidence.
Power Hockey gives severely disabled people and those with limited mobility an opportunity to play a fast, contact sport for the first time. The sport is currently being developed in the Merseyside area, but the plan is to develop the game into a national/international sport.
Who is this aimed at?
Aimed at disabled people of age 8+ who come from across the City Region .
