Approximately fifty children representing six schools from across Merseyside (Woodchurch High School, Sandfield Park School, Broadgreen International School, Bluebell Park School, Lansbury Bridge School and Springwood Heath School) took part in the Merseyside Physical Disability Boccia Tournament at Greenbank Sports Academy on 14th November.

The teams were competing for the honour of representing Merseyside in the Lord’s Taverners Regional Physical Disability Boccia competition (winner and runner up places), which will be held at Greenbank on 2nd February 2017.

Tournament finalists and therefore Merseyside representatives were Broadgreen IS and Woodchurch High School.

The overall tournament winners were Broadgreen, who won the final 11 points as opposed to 1 point from Woodchurch.

Tournament organiser Steve Sullivan said:

“It’s been a great tournament and it was fantastic that representatives from Boccia England and Lord’s and Lady Taverners were able to support the children by attending today. Without their funding, the event would not have been possible.

It is also important to acknowledge the contribution of volunteers and referees from Greenbank and Liverpool John Moores University who ensured that everything ran smoothly.

Thanks also to Paralympian Nathan Maguire who gave up his time to present the trophy.”
