Paul Wellens opens up The Wooden Spoon multi-sports room

The official opening of The Wooden Spoon Multi-Sports Room by St Helens, England and Great Britain Rugby League star Paul Wellens took place on Friday 31 May at Greenbank Sports Academy.

Facilities have been extended, thanks to funding from Sport England, The Football Foundation and Wooden Spoon. The extra space will be used to offer a range of sport and recreation activities including Rebound Therapy (using trampolines for therapeutic exercise) for severely disabled young people. It also provides much needed storage for specialist sports equipment including wheelchairs.

Improved facilities complement the Academy’s Choices for Disability Sport programme which offers local disabled people an opportunity to take part in sport.

Paul Wellens was joined by representative from Wooden Spoon (a children’s charity that partners with the UK Rugby League and Union communities), who donated £15,000 towards to the building of the new room.

Gerry Kinsella, Chief Executive of Greenbank said “I am delighted with the opening of the Wooden Spoon Multi Sports Room as it will greatly increase the provision that the Academy can offer to disabled people”.
