Everyone at Greenbank Sports Academy is celebrating the outstanding achievement of Nathan Maguire, who has been crowned Commonwealth Champion, winning gold for Team England in the T54 1500m wheelchair race at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Nathan’s victory is the culmination of years of dedication, resilience and relentless hard work. As one of Britain’s leading wheelchair racers, he has continued to inspire through his performances on the international stage, and this latest gold medal is a richly deserved reward for his commitment to excellence.
A key part of Nathan’s success is the outstanding support network around him, with special recognition going to his coaches, Peter Wyman and Steve Hoskins. Their expertise, encouragement and unwavering commitment have helped Nathan develop into one of the world’s leading wheelchair racers.
Nathan regularly trains at Kirkby Athletics Club, where Peter and Steve coach, with additional training sessions taking place on the roads and pathways around Sefton Park in Liverpool. These local training environments have played an important role in preparing Nathan for success on the international stage, demonstrating how world-class performances are built through consistent hard work, expert coaching and determination.
Peter Wyman is also Commercial and Sports Development Manager at Greenbank Sports Academy, where he leads on developing inclusive sport, strategic partnerships, funding and opportunities for disabled people to participate and progress in sport. His passion for athlete development extends far beyond his role at Greenbank, and his commitment to coaching has helped athletes achieve success at national and international level.
Alongside fellow coach Steve Hoskins, Peter has created an environment where athletes can thrive, combining technical expertise with encouragement and a genuine commitment to helping individuals reach their full potential.
