Eight teams from six local schools; Broadgreen International; Woodchurch High (A&B teams), Sandfield Park (A&B teams), St Francis Xavier Mosslands and St Chads took part in a highly competitive and fun Power Hockey Tournament at Greenbank Sports Academy on 14th March.

The tournament, which involved more than disabled and non-disabled children competing as team mates was closely fought. The exciting final involved arch rivals Broadgreen International and St Francis Xavier, with Broadgreen coming out as tournament champions following a 3 – 0 victory.

Tournament organiser Steve Sullivan said:

“Today’s event is part of our power hockey development programme which gives people an opportunity to try a sport in which disabled and non-disabled players compete equally. The purpose built electric wheelchair that is used in the sport enables players to pass and shoot the ball using a unique, propulsion mechanism. It’s fast, furious and fun.”

Power Hockey sessions take place every Wednesday from 5 – 6pm – new players welcome.
