Choices Festival of Disability Sport for Children
Approximately 250 children from Merseyside schools, Clare Mount, Chestnut Lodge, Palmerston, Lansbury Bridge, Woodchurch High, West Kirby Residential, Malvern and Alt Bridge, took part in The Choices Festival of Disability Sport for Children at Wavertree Sports Park on Wednesday 17 June.
The event was organised by Greenbank Sports Academy thanks to funding from Medicash Charitable Trust and Cash for Kids.
The children had the opportunity to take part in a wide range of sports including athletics, basketball (wheelchair and running game), polybat, boccia, new age kurling and football.
Event Organiser , Steve Sullivan commented:
“This event enabled disabled children to experience the thrill of competition and to be recognised for their performance – all of them have had a wonderful time. The event would not have been possible without the support of funding from Medicash and Cash for Kids and the help of volunteers from Deloitte and Greenbank College – thanks to all those involved in making it happen.”
Ian Magill, SEN PE Coordinator at Woodchurch High School added:
“It’s been a fantastic day – an opportunity for the children to take part in genuine competition and to try out different sports.”
The children from Woodchurch were very excited about the day; comments included:
“It was great.” “Football was the best.”
