Festival of Disability Sport for Children 2017

Approximately 150 disabled children from Merseyside schools including Alt Bridge, Bluebell Park, Childwall Abbey, Knowsley Central, Sandfield Park and Merefield had a fantastic time at the Festival of Sport on 28^th June 2017.

Organised by Greenbank Sports Academy and held at the Tennis Centre, Wavertree Sports Park it included the opportunity to compete at Boccia, Basketball, Polybat, Indoor athletics, New Age Kurling, football and indoor athletics.

The event was made possible thanks to funding from Medicash Charitable Trust and Panathlon Foundation and the support of volunteers from Deloitte, Gateacre Comprehensive School and Greenbank College.

There was a great atmosphere of friendly competition and teaching staff were delighted with the benefits that the event offered for the children competing.

Martin Carey, PE Teacher at Childwall Abbey School said:

“It’s been a really good day and a great opportunity for our children to develop their social skills, in public surroundings.”

Kerri O’Reilly, Head of PE at Alt Bridge added:

“It’s a fully inclusive event, that all our pupils can enjoy. Taking part raises self-esteem, boosts confidence and gives children the chance to make friends and have fun with competitors from other schools across the borough.”
