Merseyside Para Badminton Championship

The inaugural Merseyside Annual Para Badminton Championship, an accredited tournament in the Badminton England Para-Circuit (The Badminton England Para-Badminton circuit consists of tournaments for physically disabled players, categorised according to the nature of their impairment, and learning disabled players), was held at Greenbank Sports Academy, Liverpool on Saturday 12th July.

The Merseyside Championship attracted 16 players from throughout Britain covering wheelchair, standing and dwarf participation categories.

A total prize fund of £700 was on offer thanks to sponsorship provided by South Sefton Rotary Club and Mersey Building Supplies.

Liverpool participant Rachel Chong saidThis was the first ever para badminton tournament held in Merseyside and we will be looking to continue this on an annual basis. Participants came from all over Britain and we had one participant all the way from Denmark. Disability Badminton is on the increase and its great to have an event in Liverpool.”
