Greenbank Sports Academy played host to a Merseyside Schools Wheelchair Handball Tournament organised by Liverpool Wheechair Handball Club, on 29 September 2014.

Teams from Sandfield Park (Liverpool), St Chads (Halton), Woodchurch High (Wirral) and Cavendish Schools (Halton) took part in the event, which was organised to increase participation in the sport.

George Jolley, Treasurer of Liverpool Wheelchair Handball Club said “We secured funding from Sport England, so that we could raise awareness of wheelchair handball in schools and started working with St Chads High School, Runcorn about eighteen months ago. With the funding we were able to purchase sports wheelchairs and now run a weekly after school wheelchair handball club for disabled pupils. Today’s tournament has grown from this and it’s great to have the other schools involved”.

The closely fought tournament was won by St Chads High School, with Cavendish School the runners up.
