Over 150 disabled children from 5 schools across Merseyside took part in the MLD/Sensory Athletics Championship, held at Wavertree Sports Park and organised by Greenbank Sports Academy, on Thursday 21st May 2015.

The event offered a great opportunity for all of the children to take part competitively in a number of track and field events.

The most notable achievement of the day was from Edward Burnside, a pupil at Aigburth High School, Liverpool who won the boys 100m final in a remarkable time of 11.9 seconds. Edward will now go on to represent the North West, at the DSE National Junior Finals at the end of June, in Coventry.

Other great performances were recorded by Will Green from Crosby High School, Sefton, who jumped 1.45m to win the High Jump and threw the Shot Put 10.7m to win another gold medal. Trevor Murangi from Bank View North High School, Liverpool threw the Discus 21.3m which was a tremendous effort.

Event organiser Steve Sullivan thanked those who made the event possible saying:

“We would like to thank all officials and volunteers who supported this event especially the eighteen Sport Leaders from Gateacre Comprehensive School, who, under the guidance of Lindsay Shaw, were so supportive of the efforts of the competitors.

Thanks also to Liverpool Education department and the staff at Wavertree Tennis Centre for their continued support of this event.”
