The Annual Liverpool International Handball Tournament

The annual Liverpool International Handball Tournament (LIHT) was held at Greenbank Sports Academy on 22-24 May. The Tournament was run by Liverpool Handball Club (LHC). It is the UK’s oldest Handball tournament after running for 16 years.

Over 30 teams participated in Senior Men and Womens Cup, Men and Women’s Plate, Junior Challenge Cup and Wheelchair Cup.

In the Wheelchair Cup, 7 club teams participated from France, Spain, Halton and Liverpool. Liverpool Greenbank defeated Salestad from France 5-4 after a tense final. Anthony McMullen from Liverpool Greenbank was awarded the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.

Mark Palmer, Greenbank Sports Academy Sports Development Manager and member of winning Liverpool Greenbank team said “The event always proves popular and has attracted overseas teams as well as some of the best of British handball talent to the Greenbank Sports Academy. The Wheelchair Handball Cup is growing in size each year and this year saw the first international team entering.”

Participants interested in Wheelchair Handball can attend Liverpool Wheelchair Handball Club sessions at Greenbank Sports Academy on Wednesdays 6-7pm.
