The first Team Boccia Tournament will take place at Greenbank Sports Academy on Sunday 24th January. The event is open to centres and clubs with disabled members (people with learning, physical or sensory impairment).
Sixteen teams including some travelling from Blackpool, Sheffield, East Midlands and North Wales, as well as a number of local teams, have registered to take part.
Event organiser Steve Sullivan said:
“Boccia is a target sport for the Academy and we try to offer a wide range of opportunities to play.
The chance to play Boccia competitively is really important as players develop and we’re expecting some closely fought games.
As well as the Team Tournament, Boccia is also our January sport of the month for mini league. Sessions are free for anyone aged 14 plus, with a disability and take place on the remaining Wednesdays in January from 6 to 8pm.
We also have a Boccia Club available every Wednesday 6 – 7pm for players who want to take part regularly. It cost £1 to play. ”
